Bruno Vicente is a Portuguese conductor and composer, born in Figueira da Foz, Portugal, and currently based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Recent highlights include participating in the Mondego International Music Academy, under the guidance of Gustavo Gimeno, Dinis Sousa, and Nuno Coelho, and in the Critical Orchestra, organized by Forum Dirigieren, in Berlin. He served as assistant conductor to Pedro Carneiro with the Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa and the Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa, and has also assisted Richard Egarr, Arie van Beek, and Marcos Magalhães. His conducting path further includes collaborations with the Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra do Norte, OIHUA Ensemble, Laurens Vocaal, and the Codarts Symphony Orchestra, as well as conducting the world premieres of two operas by Massimiliano Vizzini: “Goldilocks in Amsterdam” (at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet) and “This is not my U****E”.
As a composer, his piece Harmony of the Spheres won 1st prize in the 2nd edition of the "ABC...Compositores!" competition. The piece was premiered by the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos and published by AvA Editions. This same work also led him to the final of the Stipendium prize of the Nederlands Radio Filarmonisch Orkest. He has collaborated with ensembles such as Sinfonia Rotterdam, Harmonix Orchestra, Delfts Symphonie Orkest, Coro do Círculo Cultural Scalabitano, and the Opus 111 Ensemble, in addition to composing radiotheater music for Portuguese national broadcaster Antena 2.
He is currently completing his Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at Codarts Rotterdam under Hans Leenders, Sander Teepen, and Wiecher Mandemaker, having also attended masterclasses with prominent figures such as Lawrence Foster, Baldur Brönnimann, Arie van Beek, Karel Deseure, and Jean-Marc Burfin. He holds a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Composition from Codarts and ESMAE, respectively, where his teachers included Hans Koolmees, Klaas de Vries, Wim Hendrickx, Peter-Jan Wagemans, and Dimitris Andrikopoulos, among others. In parallel, he maintains a regular activity as a choral singer with Bachkoor Holland and Laurens Vocaal, performing alongside the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, Residentie Orkest, and B'Rock Orchestra.
